Position Overview
The Manager of Transportation Operations leads and directs a team of planners who are responsible to ensure product moves on time and on budget. This role will actively collaborate across functions with our supply chain partners to ensure we provide the best services and costs, contingency management, and problem solving for supply chain issues with the least amount of cost and disruption. A focus on continual improvement through process, metrics, and technology will be critical for success. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Planning, Customer Operations, and Operations Analysts/ Specialists: clearly
communicate vision and priorities, drive strong engagement, and lead team in delivering exceptional service and
cost results. - Responsible for providing account leadership, oversight, and performance against KPI’s for the designated
customer team. - Collaborate with Director of Transportation Operations to ensure team is following best practices and trained to
use available systems and technology. - Direct the development and implementation of continuous improvement efforts.
- Lead key strategic projects such as peak planning, optimization, and shipment schedule redesigns.
- Build a strong collaborative relationship with all internal and external parties through effective communication,
conflict resolution, and compliance management. - Identify constraints and issues associated with established forecasts, develop options available for resolving
issues, develop key conclusions and recommendations based upon the plans and effectively and proactively
communicate options, conclusions and recommendations to business leaders. - Work directly with shipping facilities to meet planning parameters, monitor and improve on-time and in full delivery
performance. - Develop an in depth understanding of customer knowledge and leverage it to support field operations on various
initiatives. - Communicate business service/cost performance and opportunities to leadership and devise clear plans for KPI improvements.
- Drive results through historical data collection and market trend analytics.
- Develop a team of Analysts and Specialists by providing feedback, conducting daily touch bases and weekly
meetings. - Travel up to 10% to warehouses, customer locations, and plants/co-packers.
- May be required to be on call and work non-conventional hours based on business needs.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned or required
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years’ management experience in a Transportation, SCM, or related field.
- Proven ability to lead, communicate, and work within the framework of the team.
- Robust analytical and problem solving skills; proven ability to identify and resolve problems in a proactive and timely manner.
- Results oriented with good planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle situations, issues and information with sound judgement, diplomacy and sensitivity.
- Knowledge of applicable transportation regulations and best practices.
- Demonstrated competency in MS Office and Google applications.
- Proficiency in TMS systems and optimization technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; Specialization in Logistics, Transportation or Supply Chain Management is preferred.
- Experience working in MercuryGate TMS is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role requiring the physical ability to:
Sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer
Use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and telephone
Speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, and over the phone
Occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or lift up to 10 pounds
- Salary: Your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. We anticipate this role to pay a minimum base salary of $87,000, but actual base pay will depend on the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers.
The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise level and is climate controlled.
Location/Remote Eligibility
This is a hybrid role based out of our (Des Plaines, IL) office. Regular, on-site presence is required (4) days per week or as otherwise directed by the company.
Schedule
Work hours may vary by shift assignment and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs.
Flexible hours may be required to support deadlines or cross-functional collaboration.
